My name is Johannes Boettcher and I am completing training as a technical product designer. While looking at different training programs, I came across training as a technical product designer. My hobby is model making so I was reasonably familiar with reading drawings. After completing an internship with the company I was certain that this was the job that I wanted to continue with in the future.

In the first year of the internship, you often switch between the workshop and the office. In the workshop we learn about the specifics of the various production processes, such as drilling, turning and milling, to make sure that any future workpieces we produce meet the production requirements. In the office we work with the CAD program SolidWorks, which is used for 3D modeling and drawing. We also learn the fundamentals of compliant dimensioning and the preparation of manual drawings.

I particularly enjoy the challenge associated with designing components to ensure that they are ready for production and fit the specific task, as well as the opportunity to put forward my own ideas.

My “daily business” involves completing tasks either in a group or independently. These range from preparing drawings through to creating 3D models and independent construction and design. At the moment I am working with my colleague on developing a project for the training workshop. This involves designing a workpiece or 3D model, preparing the associated drawings, documenting the project and the final presentation of our work.

I particularly enjoy the challenge associated with designing components to ensure that they are ready for production and fit the specific task, as well as the opportunity to put forward my own ideas. SEW-EURODRIVE is a fantastic employer that places great importance on providing permanent employment opportunities after you complete your training. I also enjoy the outstanding working environment in the company.

In addition to the training, I am also completing my qualification to attend a university of applied sciences and could then also start a degree course after my training. SEW-EURODRIVE provides a range of development opportunities.
