My name is David Hess and I am currently completing my training as an industrial mechanic. After completing two internships as an industrial mechanic I realized that I really enjoyed the job, which is extremely diverse. I attended the education day at SEW-EURODRIVE together with my parents and found out about the different jobs. I then completed a voluntary internship at SEW-EURODRIVE during the summer holidays and then immediately submitted my application. I like the training workshop and the fantastic development opportunities that the company offers after the training program.

The coolest part of my job is that I am always working on different tasks and get to use different machines. These include drill presses, milling machines, lathes, machine saws, etc. It means that the work is always very varied. For example, we have built a classic car, a vise and a compressed air piston engine. I also get on well with my colleagues and we often work together in small groups on various projects.

I was surprised at how well-equipped the training workshop is. In general, SEW-EURODRIVE places a great deal of importance on providing qualified training for young people. Our instructor is a really good contact partner who is available to offer assistance at any time. I also did not expect that the company would be so focused on its trainees and it even holds external seminars.

As an industrial mechanic you need a solid understanding of mathematics and physics, spatial awareness, manual dexterity and you need to be precise. After completing the training, you can continue training as a technician or foreman or even start a cooperative education program.
