The fitting type of MOVI-C® CONTROLLER for your application depends on the configured number of synchronous axes and auxiliary axes that are required for your application. Five types of MOVI-C® CONTROLLER - UHX25A, UHX45A, UHX65A, UHX85A and NEW in the portfolio: UHX86A - are available. All versions have a compact design, so that they can fit into even small machine control cabinets.

The latest member of the MOVI-C® CONTROLLER family, the type UHX86A, is a smart, state-of-the-art controller with functional safety and a multi-purpose operating system for customer applications. It matches perfectly to the components of the MOVI-C® modular automation system and completes the controller portfolio in the high-end motion control area. With a wide range of fieldbus and network interfaces for communication with higher, lower and parallel levels, it fulfills the demands of Industry 4.0 and IoT applications.

All controllers types can work in parallel as an EtherCAT®/SBusPLUS master and also as a PROFINET IO Device or EtherNet/IPTM adapter. Modern safety concepts, such as safety via fieldbus, are realized either via PROFIsafe routing or by using Safety over EtherCAT® controllers (such as the SCU Safety control unit tested by SEW-EURODRIVE).

In addition, PROFINET I/O controller or EtherNet/IPTM scanner functionality are optionally available parallel to the EtherCAT® system bus for the UHX65A and UHX86A types. Customers of SEW-EURODRIVE can implement mixed topologies with the new variant: the high-performance EtherCAT® fieldbus for the most demanding motion control tasks and at the same time the PROFINET IO / EtherNet/IPTM fieldbus for reading sensors and controlling other peripheral devices. In this way, every customer gains flexibility in choosing the suitable hardware that matches the application requirements.

Parameterizing instead of programming

The MOVI‑C® modular automation system offers a consistent, unified platform for control cabinet controllers and decentralized controllers with similar functions and the same variety of interfaces.

The controllers from the MOVI‑C® modular automation system can be used for a wide range of motion control and automation tasks. They are connected to the higher-level controller of a machine cell or system using classic fieldbus slave interfaces for the PROFINET, EtherNet/IPTM or Modbus TCP fieldbus systems. As an EtherCAT®/SBusPLUS master, the controller is responsible for the seamless communication with the subordinate devices, e.g. MOVIDRIVE® or MOVIGEAR® performance, and their synchronous connection to the movement/application.

The added value in terms of reducing complexity comes from the integrated software of the centralized and decentralized controllers – parameterizing rather than programming. This software gives users more freedom to customize parameters while minimizing the programming effort.

Other advantages offered by our control technology include simple, central data storage and an auto-reload function for hardware replacement. Thus it is ensured that the automation technology in your production systems maintains a consistently high standard of reliability and availability.

Security options for MOVI-C® CONTROLLER of type UHX and for MOVI-C® FIELD CONTROLLER of type FHX

As of MOVISUITE® version V2.40, IEC Editor version 3.5.18.20 and Controller FW version 8.01:
Several cyber security functions are available for MOVI-C® CONTROLLER with corresponding documentation.

The following cyber security functions are supported:

  • Secure channel for certificate-based, tap-proof communication between IEC Editor and controller.
  • Device user management to define and manage access to the controller, the files and their functions
  • Secure Web visualization for implementing encrypted, web-based HMIs (HTTPS)
  • Encrypted communication via OPC UA
  • Creation and management of certificates (self-signed certificates and digital certificates issued by a certification authority)
  • Project encryption with password or with certificates

To ensure compatibility of the delivered software with previous versions, these functions are not activated when the controllers are delivered. Depending on the required protection of the system, the corresponding security options can be activated. The functions can also be activated and used at a later time after the first startup of the controller.
