A lot of trust and a lot of freedom

As soon as I first came into contact with home PCs in the mid-90s, my chosen career was clear: I wanted to work with computers and, ideally, become a programmer. As I was finishing high school and planning to study Computer Science, I began to focus on the big names in software from the high-tech region of Karlsruhe.

More by chance than anything else, I found out that SEW-EURODRIVE also offered a cooperative education program in Computer Science. Because the company made a very good impression on me, I started my cooperative education program in Computer Science at SEW-EURODRIVE, which I finished in 2007. While I was studying, however, I moved further and further away from my original intention of focusing on web/interface development. The field of embedded software development particularly fascinated me. As a result, I devoted the practical experience sections of my last three semesters almost exclusively to topics in embedded software.

SEW-EURODRIVE's flexible working hours model suits me, a father of two children, very well as it lets me adapt my working hours to my private life.

After finishing my degree program, I was hired in the department where I'd worked for the past year and a half. Now I work there in a team of eight colleagues to make sure that motors turn at the right speed at the right time thanks to appropriate communication technology. We work together to develop and implement software concepts for communication technology in coming generations of units, based on 32-bit microcontrollers. In this process, I draw on modern tools and working techniques such as requirements engineering or UML design.

I specialize in the industrial communication technologies that are commonly used in the U.S. and Asia. I'm also involved in further development of a proprietary communication system. What's more, I have the opportunity to receive further training in all these areas, think outside the box and work with new technologies.

It's important to me that my supervisor trusts me, gives me a lot of freedom in completing individual projects and actively shares information to fully support his employees. In general, I think it's very important that a team get along very well, not just on a technical level, but also on a personal one.
