The autonomous mobile robots area produces the software for intelligent robot vehicles, which handle transport tasks in factories and move loads weighing up to several metric tons through production. Here we develop not just the right software to navigate our vehicles but also appropriate solutions for coordinating and controlling robot vehicles in relation to one another and in the production environment.

As an innovative area experiencing continual growth, we have set ourselves the task of opening up a brand new field for SEW-EURODRIVE as this is an area we are delivering system solutions to the market. At the moment we are working predominantly on prototypes for our first customers or our own plants, but we are already thinking on a much bigger scale. Right from the start, we want to organize ourselves so that we can handle volume productions in the future.

-Unlike the case in many other areas of software development, with us you will always work with a strong emphasis on the hardware – and will therefore always be up close with our robots. You will also regularly test the vehicles in a real-live environment rather than simply tinkering with the software.

We always think in terms of tangible products and focus less on individual projects. The extremely large range of software types that we work with is particularly impressive: Application programs for robot controllers, websites and backend solutions for operating the system, algorithms for evaluating sensors and even complex guidance control tools, which are able to manage entire factories.

The fields of software and product development are often kept distinctly apart and tend to be less tangible but in our product software developmentarea, they are dovetailed and jointly translated into a real product: the basis for intelligent drive systems; the basic functions of which are based on well-engineered software platforms.

We develop models that are not dependent on any one customer and which serve as the basis for subsequent end-user solutions. In the automation and production-related IT area, we see ourselves as business enablers for all operational units, such as manufacturing, production and logistics. This is where IT meets production and logistics processes! One of our remits is to deploy our well-engineered IT solutions to perfectly control the complex systems in our automated plants with their thousands of bin locations. Not only do we provide intelligent and smooth-running workflows, but we also ensure that we consistently remain at the forefront of what technology can deliver.

Thanks to our formidable and interdisciplinary teams we can rely on extensive technological know-how: Together we work on intelligent software solutions, which offer more than just a supply of materials at the touch of a button. We develop comprehensive functions for automation and process chains, which intelligently assist our staff in production with their work.

Just as importantly, we also ensure that all our systems are fully protected.

Nothing works without us. No matter whether it's administrative tasks related to infrastructure and SAP or handling the IT service management, our know-how and our distinct hands-on mentality make us an indispensable element in the success of the entire company.

And because we can do even more, we provide platforms, basic technologies and infrastructures for digital business models for external customers too. Examples include platforms for intelligently controlling production processes in a smart factory and for remote and preventative maintenance of customer facilities.

Our work also focuses on information security and operations: For example, we are putting a lot of our energies into further developing the SEW-EURODRIVE cloud and are responsible for access and data security.
