From student trainee to project manager

As a planning engineer at SEW‑EURODRIVE, I work to continually improve the flexibility, quality and efficiency of our production systems in order to meet rising customer requirements and to maintain the competitiveness of the company.

While I was completing my industrial engineering degree, I took the opportunity to become a student trainee to get to know SEW‑EURODRIVE better and gain experience in assembly planning. My main focus was on workforce management. The freedom they granted me in pursuing this topic, both in how I structured it and the actions I took, showed me that you can have a bit more flexibility at SEW‑EURODRIVE. When I finished my student training program, I got the opportunity to stay in contact with the company through StudentsWorld. This program also provided a good platform to discuss the possibility of starting a career and to find a solution that was attractive for both sides.

The diversity of the tasks, the interaction with colleagues and the interdepartmental cooperation ensure a pleasant working atmosphere and constantly provide new challenges.

When I started working as a planning engineer at SEW‑EURODRIVE, I was initially entrusted with restructuring an assembly area – with the goal of making space for a new assembly system. This task allowed me to become familiar with organizational and technical planning of assembly procedures and work stations in detail. I was also integrated into the product development process for new gear units, together with an experienced colleague, which gave me the knowledge of systems, products and processes in gear unit assembly necessary for my job in the shortest amount of time.

My current work includes managing projects for optimizing and replanning assembly systems and processes, collaborating on product development projects and introducing software to assist in workforce management. In addition to these projects, a large portion of my daily work consists of shop floor management in gear unit assembly. The diversity of the tasks, the interaction with colleagues and the interdepartmental cooperation ensure a pleasant working atmosphere and constantly provide new challenges.
