Couplings at input end

Various couplings are used to transfer power, torque and speed from the motor to the gear unit. The claw couplings between the motor and gear unit have proved particularly successful. Depending on the application, the special properties of the fluid coupling may also be required. In addition, it is possible to select the couplings with brake disk or brake drum in order to install a brake.

  • Compensation of a small axial, radial and angular misalignment between both coupling hubs
  • Due to their elastic properties, elastomers in the coupling connection dampen motor impacts and vibrations and thus reduce the gear unit load caused by the motor
  • Delay chamber to reduce the motor starting torque for a gentle, reliable start-up of belt conveyors, bucket elevators or other systems with high inertia starting
  • Easy to assemble and disassemble (fluid coupling can be radially extended)
  • Optional monitoring device to detect overheating and stop system in time if needed

Couplings on the output side between gear unit and customer interface

Different coupling types are possible to transmit power, torque and speed from the gear unit to the application shaft. Depending on the application and required properties, pin, claw, tooth and flange couplings are used in particular.

  • Compensation of a small axial, radial and angular misalignment between both coupling hubs
  • With their elastic properties, elastomers in the coupling connection dampen shocks and vibrations on the gear unit side and the application side, and thus reduce the load.
  • Particularly suitable for high torques
  • Elastomer can be replaced without removal
  • Compensation of the axial, radial and angular misalignment between both coupling hubs
  • Elastomers in the coupling connection provide with their elastic properties for damping shocks and vibrations on the gear unit side and the application side and thus for a reduction of the load.
  • Compact design
  • Compensation of the axial, radial and angular offset between the two coupling hubs
  • Torsionally rigid coupling
  • O-ring replaceable without removal
  • As a design with key connection, it is ideally suited for agitating or mixing systems
  • As a design with a cylindrical press dressing, it is ideally suited for conveyor systems
  • Rigid transmission of forces

Drive packages on a steel construction

Swing arms, base frames or individual drive frames according to customer specifications offer the option of accommodating all drive components such as gear unit, motor, couplings and, if required, brakes on a steel structure. The individual components can thus be positioned on the steel construction in a space-saving manner and used as a complete drive package on site.

  • Steel construction for the joint construction of gear unit, motor, coupling (also often as fluid coupling) and, if necessary Brake including safety devices such as protection covers
  • Rigid connection to the customer shaft (e.g. via a flange coupling) and flexible connection to the system via the torque arm
  • The torque arm holds the drive package in the horizontal position and prevents rotation of the drive package. All other forces are absorbed via the output shaft.
  • Often used in conveyor systems, bucket elevators or other hard-to-start systems
  • Steel construction for the joint construction of gear unit, motor, coupling and, if necessary Brake including safety devices such as protection covers
  • Rigid connection to the floor
  • Connection to the customer shaft via an elastic coupling to avoid tension caused by static redundancy
  • The base frame is designed by SEW-EURODRIVE according to the respective customer specifications. It is designed to absorb order-specific, external forces and torques of the machine and to deflect them to the supporting structure.
  • Manufacturing of drive frames tailored to customer specifications

Brakes

Brakes on the input side can fulfill various functions. They can be used as holding brake, stop brake or working brake. Depending on the function, different designs are possible.

  • Preferably used as a holding brake for reliably holding a conveyor belt, for example, to prevent the belt from running backwards in standstill
  • Braking torque can be set over a wide range
  • Various options such as: Automatic wear adjustment, limit switch whether brake is open or closed, manual release lever with safety monitoring for manual brake release
  • Ideally used as a working brake to reliably brake e.g. a conveyor belt through different speeds until brought to a stop
  • Automatic adjustment device for independent balancing of brake linings (in event of wear) for a constant braking torque and to maintain the brake function
  • Braking torque can be set over a wide area, avoiding overload caused by the brake
  • Timely stoppage of e.g. a conveyor belt in the case of consecutive belts, avoiding overfilling of the following belt
  • Various options such as: Automatic wear adjustment, limit switch whether brake is open or closed, manual release lever with safety monitoring for manual brake release

External oil supply and oil cooling systems

Oil supply and oil cooling systems may be necessary on site, depending on the circumstances. Oil cooling systems, which are available as oil-air and oil-water coolers, can handle particularly high temperatures of the gear unit oil, for example. These systems are mounted separately on the gear unit and are driven independently of it. The oil supply systems, on the other hand, ensure that the gear unit is sufficiently lubricated everywhere. The pump used for this is mounted externally on the gear unit and is driven independently of it. Furthermore, the use of a combined variant consisting of an oil supply and oil cooling system may be necessary. Note that the oil supply part must always run with the gear unit, but the cooling part can be switched on and off depending on the temperature.

All the information you need about approved lubricants – for optimum protection for your gear unit.
