The number, design and arrangement of grinding rolls in vertical mills vary depending on the manufacturer and the material to be ground. In some cases, up to six grinding rolls are required, as the infeed material can have dimensions up to 100 mm. Power ratings of up to 12,000 kW are required, depending on the infeed material, and the throughput can range up to 1,200 t/h for coarse material and 600 t/h for cement clinker. Our industrial gear unit package reduces the motor speed to that required for the grinding table and converts a horizontal input axis to a vertical output axis. The industrial gear unit also supports the grinding table, which is mounted on the output disk. The ground material load and the weight of the grinding table are transferred directly to the base via the tilting pad thrust bearing and the housing panel. The thrust bearing can absorb the static and dynamic grinding forces. A flexible coupling is mounted between the gear unit's motor shaft and output shaft in order to reduce the vibrations in the drive system.
The industrial gear units are also equipped with a welded or cast steel housing as they have to withstand huge loads and forces. Our drive solutions for vertical mills are also characterized by their high efficiency and long service life.
