Reliable monitoring
Of the brake function and wear with just one measurement system.

Individual planning
Of the wear-based maintenance intervals because the /DUE diagnostic unit continuously determines the brake's working air gap.

Just one purchase
Because the measurement system itself works contactlessly and without wear.

Function and wear are always under control

SEW‑EURODRIVE's /DUE diagnostic unit option for the BE1 to BE122 brakes that have been tried and tested millions of times, as well as the new BF11 to BF 30 double brakes, takes on two tasks with just one measurement system: monitoring the function of the brake and determining the wear on the brake lining. It performs both tasks by continuously monitoring the working air gap of the brake. This way, you can also plan individual, wear-based maintenance intervals for your brake system. In practice, this means: You always have the function and wear of the brake under control.

The sensor is fully integrated into the brake and the evaluation electronics are protected in the terminal boxes. As a result, you can easily use the /DUE diagnostic unit option even under difficult ambient conditions up to IP66.
As standard, it also has one digital output signal each for the function of the brake and wear on the brake lining, as well as an analog current signal that corresponds to the size of the working air gap.

The measurement system works contactlessly based on the eddy current principle; high-frequency alternating current flows through the sensors. The electromagnetic field induces eddy currents in the pressure plate, which change the sensor's AC resistance. The evaluation unit converts this change in impedance to an electrical signal (4 – 20 mA) that is proportional to the brake's working air gap.

The brake function is monitored using digital signals (NO contacts), and digital outputs (NC contacts) are used to indicate that the wear limits have been reached. Current outputs also allow continuous monitoring of brake wear.
In addition to the outputs, LEDs on the evaluation unit also indicate the function and wear of every partial brake.

  • Two digital output signals (DC 24 V):
    • 1 digital output with NO contact function as function monitoring for the brake: Determining the correct brake function (brake released/applied)
    • 1 digital output with NC contact function as wear monitoring for the brake:
Determining the maximum wear limit for the brake (working air gap OK/too large)
  • A current signal that is proportional to the air gap (4 to max. 20 mA).
  • Sensor is completely integrated into the coil body
  • LEDs in the evaluation unit indicate the status of the digital outputs
  • Evaluation unit (electronics) is always installed in the terminal box and has the IP degree of protection of the overall drive
  • Sensors with the IP66 degree of protection so the drive can be offered with an overall degree of protection of IP66
  • Determining the wear on the brake lining and the brake function is contactless and wear-free
  • The /DUE diagnostic unit option comes fully assembled and calibrated in the brakemotor
  • DIP switch for setting the sensor size and the maximum permitted wear limit for optimal adjustment to the application in combination with condition monitoring
  • If the brake disk is changed or the air gap is reset in case of wear, no new calibration of the eddy current sensor is required because the sensor's installation environment does not change
  • Connection variants:
    • Directly via the cage clamp
    • Connection via the M12 connector (4 or 8 pins)
  • The diagnostic unit can be retrofitted
  • The evaluation unit is available in two versions:
    • DUE-1K: Single-channel version for BE.. brakes
    • DUE-2K: Dual-channel version for BF.. brakes
  • The dual-channel version has a digital output for brake function and for wear on the brake lining for each partial brake, as well as an analog current signal
