Bulk material handling at the storage site

Large masses are handled safely and rapidly in harsh environments

Bulk goods are unloaded from ships by ship unloaders and belt conveyors or unloaded from rail cars by rail car unloaders, apron feeders, and belt conveyors. They are then taken to intermediate storage locations at the steelworks itself. Here, too, there are huge requirements placed on the drives.

Rail car unloading stations ensure raw materials can be unloaded safely and reliably at the steelworks. The aim is to speed up raw material handling as much as possible, and a huge range of rail car types are used to achieve that.

Stacker reclaimers ensure raw materials are held in temporary storage in line with requirements prior to their onward transportation. The materials are then taken out of temporary storage and transported to the steelworks for processing.

It is vital that steel production is not brought to a halt by delayed raw material deliveries. After arriving at the steelworks, bulk materials such as iron and coal are held in intermediate storage at the steelworks' own facilities. Alongside a range of storage facility equipment such as stackers, scraper reclaimers, and bridge-type bucket wheel reclaimers, it is above all a large number of belt conveyors that transport the raw materials on site.

When fresh supplies are needed in production, it is time for scraper reclaimers, scraper reclaimers, and belt conveyors to swing into action. The sheer mass of raw materials that needs to be moved is enormous and the environmental conditions of heat and dust pose a huge challenge. All the same, all the drives need to be able to deliver their full output at the touch of a button.
