Application:
conveyor technology for bottles, crates, and pallets / bottling lines
In collaboration with equipment manufacturer Krones, SEW-EURODRIVE implemented a decentralized drive concept based on MOVIGEAR® performance for the new filling lines. The compact drive units combine the motor, gear unit, and inverter in a single housing, thereby significantly reducing cabling requirements. Instead of complex wiring routes between the control cabinet and the motor, only the power supply and fieldbus need to be connected. This reduces space requirements, installation effort, and commissioning times. At the same time, large parts of the control cabinet technology are eliminated, thereby removing a significant cost factor.
The energy-efficient MOVIGEAR® drive units also support the brewery’s sustainability goals. Compared to conventional asynchronous motors, they offer significant energy-saving potential and help to permanently reduce the energy consumption of modern bottling lines. The sealed, fanless hygienic design meets the requirements of sensitive beverage applications and performs reliably even under the intensive cleaning conditions of modern bottling plants.
Client: C. & A. Veltins Private Brewery
Location: Grevenstein, Germany
Industry: Beverage Industry / Brewery
Applications: Bottle Conveyor Technology, Packaging Unit Transport, Pallet Conveyor Technology, Filling Lines
In 2025, the company set a new record with an annual output of 3.37 million hectoliters. Approximately 750 employees generated revenue of 461 million euros. Veltins’ keen sense of consumer trends also contributes to its ongoing success. The company has continuously expanded its product range and today offers not only the classic Pilsner but also specialty beers, beer-based mixed drinks, draft beers, and non-alcoholic varieties. Most recently, a light lager was added to the lineup, specifically targeting a young, urban target group.
The decision to choose SEW-EURODRIVE is also based on many years of practical experience: Veltins has been successfully using MOVIGEAR® technology in an existing bottling line since 2009. The high system availability, along with personalized support from a dedicated contact person, confirms that we are on the right track and lays the foundation for further modernization projects at the site.
With MOVIGEAR® performance, Veltins relies on a mechatronic drive system consisting of a gear unit, a synchronous motor, and a decentralized inverter. The solution is part of the MOVI-C® modular automation system and combines high energy efficiency with a compact design.

We’re not afraid to use new technologies. Our systems operate for several decades. From our perspective, that’s an aspect of sustainability. That’s why we prefer to rely on the latest technology and solutions that are available in the long term. With their high overload capacity, the MOVIGEAR® performance drives also offer us a high degree of reliability. This is a particularly important advantage for us when starting up heavily loaded conveyor lines.Peter Peschmann
With MOVIGEAR® performance, we were able to implement a drive concept for Veltins that significantly reduces space requirements as well as installation and wiring efforts. At the same time, the systems benefit from high energy efficiency, quick startup, and high operational reliability. Furthermore, the use of DynaStop® eliminates the need for mechanical brakes in many applications, which reduces wear and maintenance requirements and increases the robustness of the drive units.Sven Waskönig
