At Bergzeit, sustainability doesn’t end at the storage facility. The company operates a photovoltaic system with an annual output of approximately 550,000 kWh, is firmly committed to electric mobility, and follows a comprehensive, EMAS-certified environmental management system (EMAS stands for Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). With its automated shuttle warehouse, Bergzeit is laying the groundwork for further growth in e-commerce. The shuttle warehouse comprises 54,000 storage bins across seven aisles. Eight shuttles are in operation per aisle, enabling a particularly high storage density through a triple-deep bearing arrangement. When the shuttle and tray lifts are braking and lowering, the energy generated is not wasted as heat but is fed back into the power grid via regenerative power supply modules. In this way, the company combines high logistics performance with resource-efficient operations and its ambitious sustainability goals.

Application: Shuttle warehouse
From a passion for mountaineering to modern intralogistics: What began in 1999 as an attic startup is now a successful online retailer of mountaineering equipment. With an automated shuttle warehouse at its Otterfing location, Bergzeit GmbH is laying the groundwork for further growth, high throughput, and efficient, sustainable logistics.
In addition to efficient logistics operations, the shuttle warehouse was designed above all to be energy-efficient. The recovery and feed-back of braking energy are therefore key components of our energy concept.Holger Cecco-Stark
By implementing energy recovery in Bergzeit’s new shuttle warehouse, psb intralogistics and SEW-EURODRIVE were able to jointly make an effective contribution to greater energy efficiency. The combination of shuttle technology, energy recovery, and photovoltaics demonstrates how the sustainable use of resources and cost-effective plant operation can be successfully connected. This is made possible by detailed planning and the trusting collaboration of all parties involved.Dominik Gläßer
