SEW-EURODRIVE established the Profile 2020 future program to ensure production remains competitive in the future. This program aims to achieve an efficiently led factory that creates added value, is value stream-oriented, and is interference- and error-free. Managers will play a vital role in this. The qualification drive was specifically set up as a key measure for supervisors.

Managing people is fun, but people are all individuals, and need to be treated accordingly. That is something I have experienced more than once in my 30 years.

Around 100 employees at the German sites are taking part in the qualification drive. Michael Mannherz (54), segment manager for helical gearing, is one of them. Since fall 2016, he has been working on various optional and compulsory modules that will equip him for Industry 4.0 and increase his scope of responsibility. Mannherz will receive a certificate when he completes the course in roughly three years' time.
