In addition to the available interfaces PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP^TM, Modbus-TCP and EtherCAT^®, POWERLINK offers system designers the flexibility to use drive technology from SEW-EURODRIVE in all topologies. Both machine automation, e.g. motion control applications, and system automation with simple to complex conveyor technology can be implemented via POWERLINK.

Machine communication via POWERLINK is one of the most widespread real-time capable Industrial Ethernet communication technologies in the automation world and is based on the CAN in Automation standard CiA402. POWERLINK enables users to communicate in existing as well as in new systems that are equipped with BUSMASTER and thus to integrate the powerful control cabinet inverters from SEW-EURODRIVE.

The expansion in the area of control cabinet technology makes it possible to implement power ranges greater than 7.5 kW in systems with POWERLINK communication protocol. This completes SEW-EURODRIVE's powerful modular automation system, which now also includes control cabinet technology in addition to decentralized drives.
