"CITY CYCLING" campaign – the SEW-EURODRIVE team breaks distance

07.08.2018

The bicycle is the most commonly used means of transport worldwide and is important for a sustainable future. Cycling doesn't generate carbon dioxide emissions, which makes it environmentally friendly. Cycling regularly is also good for you, as it strengthens your heart, muscles and lungs. The aim of the "STADTRADELN" (CITY CYCLING) campaign is to encourage more people to get on their bikes.

"CITY CYCLING" is a Germany-wide, inter-municipality competition aimed at protecting the environment and promoting cycling. The goal is to cover as many kilometers as possible by bicycle – for work and leisure – over the course of 21 consecutive days, which benefits both the environment and the health of participants. Bruchsal has been involved in the campaign since 2016. The SEW-EURODRIVE team, which includes employees from the Bruchsal and Graben-Neudorf sites, took part for the first time in 2017.

To get as many employees as possible geared up for "CITY CYCLING", three passionate cyclists described why they love cycling in posters specially designed for the campaign. The posters proved to be very effective. Some 150 employees registered this year, and really got pedaling over the course of three weeks (July 1 to 21). Altogether, they racked up nearly 48 000 kilometers.

This makes SEW-EURODRIVE far and away the lead rider in Bruchsal. The 25 teams in the municipality cycled a total of almost 121 000 kilometers. That equates to a saving of 17 000 kilograms of CO2 emissions and compares favorably with the 2017 figures of 110 273 kilometers and 15 658 kilograms of CO2.

At SEW-EURODRIVE, we are particularly proud to say that eleven of the 20 top cyclists in Bruchsal were our employees. All the registered cyclists were also automatically entered into an in-house RadBINGO competition, with an attractive prize on offer every week.

We are already looking forward to next year's "CITY CYCLING" campaign.
