Bruchsal, Nuremberg, Fachpack, 21.08.2025 • Working with SEW EURODRIVE, mechanical engineering firm Hugo Beck needed just three months to create the compact horizontal form, fill, and seal machine flowpack R. StarterSET compact 512 – a preconfigured automation package with perfectly matched hardware and software modules from SEW EURODRIVE – is at the heart of this solution.

Automation packages for FFS machines

The flowpack R FFS machine from Hugo Beck can produce up to 150 paper packages per minute. The packaging machine combines a high level of energy efficiency with reduced resource consumption, operating with electric variable speed drives and completely without the use of compressed air. This made it possible to cut energy requirements and boost productivity at the same time. Performance, brake, and diagnostic data are transferred via the MOVILINK® DDI digital motor interface using robust single-cable technology. This contributes significantly to monitoring the production process.

Easier implementation

This future-proof packaging solution with outstanding time-to-market and a high level of sustainability was created with end-to-end support from SEW‑EURODRIVE – from project planning and simulation to startup. StarterSET were a big part of this – complete, perfectly matched automation packages that combine hardware and software. They can be used directly as a basic package, or they can be expanded and adapted on a customized basis. This makes it easier to implement a machine solution, reduces the time required for configuration, shortens the project duration, and lowers the overall costs. StarterSET compact is the cost-effective solution for the machine automation of compact applications with up to six axes, while StarterSET performance is the more powerful solution for complex applications with up to 32 axes. Both packages contain preselected drive and automation components such as controllers, operator panels, inverters, servo gearmotors, and accessories. The basic package can be adapted to the specific target application, and can be continuously expanded with safety technology, intelligent energy management, and IoT applications for early fault detection and simulation.

Lower project costs

Several MOVIKIT® software modules, which have been collated in MOVIKIT® Bundles, provide application-specific functions such as motion profiles, standardized communications solutions, and machine data visualization. In addition, virtual commissioning based on CAD data enabled the parallel development of mechanics and control systems. This significantly accelerated development and reduced project costs.
