25.10.2024 • Bruchsal, Nuremberg, SPS 2024: SEW EURODRIVE is using the model of a software-defined machine to showcase a vision of the digital transformation.
DriveOperations is a digital solution for smart factories. It makes it possible to integrate controllers and components, and can simplify software management, supply, and automation support for field units. It is based on technology from Software Defined Automation GmbH, one of SEW‑EURODRIVE's cooperation partners. The necessary IDEaaS tools run directly in the cloud – without any need for downloads or local installation. There's less need for costly on-site service, either, significantly reducing the outlay for project planning, startup, production, and maintenance. Efficiency, flexibility, and engineering convenience are boosted as a result.
With DriveOperations, users always have access to the correct software version for configuring and adapting industrial automation solutions. Secure remote access makes it possible to initiate backups and safely adjust the system, and also makes it easy to restore the system. If there is temporarily no connection to the cloud, the system can be restored from a locally saved backup. DriveOperations provides those responsible for production with the necessary transparency about the current status of all controllers. Third parties can also be given temporary, monitored access.
The integrated DriveOperations concept from SEW‑EURODRIVE makes it possible for partners from the packaging industry, such as the Clevertech Group from Italy, to offer their customers packaging solutions in a completely scalable way, regardless of proprietary PLCs. This solution is suitable for boosting the efficiency of customers' machinery throughout its service life. The future of automation will be shaped by intelligent algorithms and the use of artificial intelligence. DriveOperations is paving the way for this virtualized factory – the software-defined factory.
