Overview of the system components

Master modules MXM:

Master module

Master modules are the "brain" of each axis system. Depending on the type, the entire axis system is addressed using non-SEW controllers or MOVI-PLC® controllers from SEW-EURODRIVE

The MOVIAXIS® master module is offered in two different types:

  • Fieldbus gateway with data memory
  • Motion controller MOVI-PLC® advanced *

Axis modules either communicate directly with an external controller via the integrated system buses and fieldbus option cards, or are controlled centrally via a master module of one of the three types. The modules have the following features:

  • Maximum overload of 250 % **
for at least 1 s (max. 250 A; the overload
    time increases for lower overloads)
  • Option to switch between a maximum of
3 motors with individual parameter sets
  • Fast touch probe inputs
  • Integrated technology functions such as
    electronic cam, touch probe, etc.
  • Electric gear units can be controlled
    in user-defined units
  • Integrated DC 24 V brake control
  • Single CAN, Twin-CAN system bus
(1x CAN can be configured as CANopen*)
  • Parameter upgrade by means of a fieldbus / parameter interface
  • Optional: Safe stop categories 3/4 (safe torque off)
(performance level "D"/"E") with safe feedback
  • Optional: High speed system bus
    on ETHERNET basis*
  • Synchronized emergency braking in the
    event of several faulty axes
  • Multi-encoder interface in the basic unit
  • Double 7-segment display for unique messages
  • Auto reload of all axis parameters when replacing
the unit (in conjunction with master module)

Regenerative and power supply modules supply the connected axes with energy. They have a high overload capacity and feed back the regenerated energy into the connected power supply system.

Features:

  • Maximum overload of up to 200% of the rated power for maximum 1 s (max. 150 kW)
  • Minimized charging currents for mains-friendly harmonic behavior and high effective current percentage
  • Other features:
    –   Controlled DC link voltage
    –   Diagnostics and energy meter function
    –   Fieldbus and parameterizing capable
    –   Integrated brake chopper

Optional components:

24 V switched-mode power supply

24 V switched-mode power supply

DC link discharge module

DC link discharge module

Switched-mode power supply MXS
The DC 24 V switched-mode power supply module supplies MOVIAXIS® from the DC link if required, on a maximum number of 3 x DC 24 V channels with up to 600 W. External DC 24 V backup voltage can be supplied as well as external DC 24 V consumers.

DC link discharge module MXZ
The system component was developed to prevent very sensitive machine and plant components or tools / devices from colliding. In the event of an unintentional, complete power failure, the component discharges the DC link of MOVIAXIS® and in this way stops unintentional machine movements.

Axis option cards XFx, XGx, XIx, XSx
MOVIAXIS® axis modules can be expanded with the following option cards: PROFIBUS, analog, digital I/O input and multi-encoder cards. The multi-encoder card enables diverse encoder systems to be connected in order to keep the number of connections to a minimum. The range of products extends from remote HIPERFACE® laser encoders, SSI and sinusoidal encoders through to high-resolution EnDat systems.

Capacitor and buffer modules:

Capacitor and buffer modules

Capacitor and buffer modules

Capacitor module MXC
Capacitor modules are additional components that can be optimally integrated into the axis system. They are used as intelligent intermediate energy storage device. Energy, which is fed into the DC link when motors are braked, are stored in the capacitor module by means of a charging circuit. This energy is delivered to the main DC link and reused if acceleration is required. Braking energy that exceeds the capacity of the capacitor module is dissipated in the braking resistor.

The capacitor module is a simple and easy to integrate option for saving energy by reusing it.

Characteristics:

  • Maximum storable energy of 1000 Ws
  • Peak power 50 kW
  • Capacity 4920 µF

Buffer module MXB
Buffer modules are additional components that can be optimally integrated into the axis system. They are used to store energy. Buffer modules are charged with energy from the DC link irrespective of whether the motors are decelerated or accelerated. This means buffer modules make available a "guaranteed amount of energy" in the DC link. This amount of energy can be used to move drives to a safe position (return movement), for example in the event of a power failure in the system.

Characteristics:

  • Maximum storable energy of 1000 Ws
